The Antarctic environments and neighboring islands boast a great variety of living beings. Icy and stormy seas, windy coastlines, a craggy landscape covered in ice for most of the year; this is the area chosen by some bird species as the place in which to mate and raise their young. The emperor penguin even prefers heading down in winter on dry land to incubate a single egg on its feet, in the midst of storms and the snow.
