Throughout January and February, the mendocinos carry out celebrations to choose candidates for the National Grape Harvest Queen.
The Blessing of the Fruit kick-starts the National Grape Harvest Festival with thanks to God for the harvest and an offering of the new wine.
Known locally as the Vía Blanca de las Reinas, a colourful procession parades the National Grape Harvest Festival Queen candidates in front of the admiring crowd on the Friday evening.
The next day, the popular Carrusel features gauchos in typical dress riding their faithful horses up and down the streets with a trail of old wooden ox carts alongside them, one of the first vehicles used in Mendoza over 120 years ago.
The National Grape Harvest Festival celebrations culminate with a bang at the Acto Central on Saturday night and the following two evenings.
Traditional dancers and musicians from Mendoza provide a spectacular large-scale sound and light show in the Frank Romero Day Amphitheatre.
At the stroke of midnight, the new National Grape Harvest Queen is plucked from the bunch of local beauties and duly crowned.
