Diving with sea lions at Peninsula Valdes

In Puerto Madryn, visitors dive with sea lions.

Diving with sea lions at Peninsula Valdes

Puerto Madryn has built up a deserved international reputation as Argentina´s marine showcase. It´s a wonderful place to visit and take your first steps towards learning about the ocean.

For those who would like to watch underwater life, Madryn is deservedly regarded as Argentina´s scuba diving capital.

In Golfo Nuevo, only 50 km away from Puerto Madryn you will find Punta Loma Provincial Reserve, which was created to protect the Sea Lions colony living there all year round.

The calm and placid waters of the gulfs, the diversity and unique features of the Patagonian sea and a support and service infrastructure for the scuba diver, whatever his or her expertise, add up to an exceptionally high quality offer in this adventure sport.

These incredible underwater environments may be visited with the aid of local experienced divers and with a basic knowledge about scuba diving. All the instructors and diving guides are authorized by and registered in the Argentine Navy authorities. They work under security rules following international standards and procedures.

Divers and adventure lovers have the chance of getting to know the different underwater parks, either with a diving instructor or with an excursion guide for the professional divers. All necessary equipment is also available to live through a unique experience individually or with your group of friends.

The excursion starts off with high tide, if the climate allows it.

The cost is, without a doubt, the main reason that it explains why 80% of those who chooses to dive are visitors: it is necessary to disburse USD 150 aprox. to dive with sea lions during 45 minutes.

In the reserve there is a stable community of sea lions of around 500 animals. Adequate measures to protect the colony and its environment have put into effect from the beginning.

There are different options for diving, either from the beach or from boats.

Different options for visitors include the traditional diving baptism, snorkeling, inmersion between sea lions and living on board programs (2 or 3 days).

If you are interested in watching sea life, diving lessons is a wonderful way to live an unforgettable experience.
