Description
This is the region of great rivers, humid tropics, with jungle vegetation housing a very broad biodiversity, which remains intact in the confines of its vast national parks.
This is where the the Iguazú waterfalls are to be found, declared a Natural Heritage site by UNESCO. With their total of 275 waterfalls, the Iguazú falls' volume is nine times the volume of Niagara Falls'. It also includes the Iberá estuaries, a natural reserve with wetlands known around the world.
The original inhabitants of this area were the Guaraní indigenous peoples, who were involved in the evangelization movement that was one of its kind; the Jesuit mission ruins, listed as a Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO and vivid evidence of these events.
