Description

This region stretches from the Andes mountain range to the Atlantic Ocean with two landscapes of contrasting features.
The Andean Patagonia, with eternal snow-bearing mountainous chains, conifer forests thousands of years old, large crystalline lakes and rushing rivers; these ecosystems are preserved intact inside the vast national parks surrounding the city of Bariloche.
Coastal Patagonia, with broad beaches and small bays, harbors the comprehensive fauna reserve, Valdés Peninsula, with the largest continental rookery of marine mammals and immense penguin colonies. Southern right whales come to these waters to mate and the area has thus been declared a Whale Sanctuary and World Heritage site by UNESCO.
